Going to the zoo to see animals is quite an exciting experience, no matter whether you’re a child or an adult. Learn about four things you should do when you visit the Naples Zoo to get the most out of your wildlife adventure.
-
Go on the Primate Expedition Cruise
Included with your admission is the chance to go on the Primate Expedition Cruise. This extraordinary cruise starts on the shore of Lake Victoria when you board a catamaran with a cruise guide. For 15-20 minutes, you’ll glide along the water, pass through several islands and see three types of primates in their natural habitat: monkeys, lemurs, and apes. You’re welcome to go on the cruise as many times as you want.
-
Attend a Show at Safari Canyon
If you want to learn even more about wild animals, attend a show at the Safari Canyon open-air theater, which can seat up to 400 guests. Before each show, you can learn some wildlife trivia, conservation data, and other fun facts about nature. During each show, you’ll see clips of wildlife and views of animals that are not on exhibit on a live cam. Whether you want to learn something new or just want to experience wildlife in a different way, head over to Safari Canyon for a thrilling show.
-
Meet-The-Keeper Talks
Another experience you should plan for while at Naples Zoo is attending a Meet-The-Keeper Talk. You’ll get the chance to watch a zookeeper talk all about a particular animal in a more intimate setting. Zookeepers share fun facts about the animal, how the zookeepers take care of the animal, and what you can do to help wild members of the species.
-
Explore the Gardens
In the early 1900s, Dr. Henry Nehrling began working to preserve the plants of Naples, Florida, and the area became known as the Tropical Garden. After a bumpy history of keeping the plant preserve alive, animals were introduced on 43 acres of the property. We now know the historical area as Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens.
While you may visit Naples Zoo to see the animals, you can also take a tour of the Gardens to learn more about the plants. You will enjoy seeing a variety of plant life that tells the history of the Caribbean islands, such as orchids, palm trees, and banyan trees. At the very least, take time to admire the botanical exhibits when you walk between animal exhibits.
-
Go on a Wild Encounter
If you want to experience a special interaction with a zoo animal, book a wild encounter. You’ll get to spend time with a conservation educator, meet a zookeeper, and interact with the animal in some way. You could meet a honey badger, giraffe, anteater, red-ruffed lemur, or Florida panther. Depending on the species of animal you choose, you may be allowed to feed the animal, make enrichment, or observe training.
To go on a Wild Encounter, you must book the encounter at least two days in advance and be accompanied by a paying adult, if under the age of 16. Tickets costs range from $29-$69 per member and more for nonmembers.
Don’t pass up the chance to visit Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens and enjoy any one of these memorable experiences.
